Scholarship Program

Each year we award scholarships to Rowan County high school seniors – public, private, or home schooled – who are LGBTQ+ or allies. Since its creation in 2008, our scholarship program has awarded over $100,000 to deserving students. This year we have added additional scholarships that are specifically for college/university students.

  • Ralph Ketner-Bill Stanback Equality Scholarship
  • Anne Stanback-Charlotte Kinlock Scholarship

This scholarship is named in honor of Salisbury native Anne Stanback and her wife, Charlotte Kinlock. A 2006 inductee of the Connecticut Women’s Hall of Fame, and graduate of Yale Divinity School, Anne’s work as Executive Director of “Love Makes A Family” led the way nationally, and was instrumental in bringing marriage equality to Connecticut.

  • Carol Williams-Swoope Social Justice Scholarship

This scholarship is named in memorial of an early supporter and past president of PFLAG Salisbury-Rowan, Carol Williams-Swoope, after her unexpected death in January 2020. A local humanitarian, she worked for Food Lion Offices and helped start their Department of Diversity and Inclusion. As a tireless LGBTQ+ advocate she also supported many social justice causes, both local and national. This scholarship is awarded to those who demonstrate a passion for social justice.

  • Laurene C. Bralley Perseverance Scholarship

Our newest scholarship is named in honor of Laurene C. Bralley, a mother, ally, and friend whose determination inspired those who knew her to never give up and persevere against all odds.
